The Client
Our client is a stand alone UK subsidiary within a recognised global group of companies. They hold an excellent position within the UK for providing bespoke engineering and test solutions within the aerospace, automotive and engineering equipment markets. Their facilities and knowledge are at the forefront of this industry and they are constantly striving to ensure that they continue to remain abreast of new technologies.
Due to an increased demand for their specialism and a huge growth within the aerospace industry generally they now have an exciting position for a Design Engineer to join their friendly, professional and passionate team.
The Role
You will be primarily involved with test equipment for major aerospace engineering companies and will require a design capability and general mechanical engineering knowledge of medium to heavy equipment. Your remit will encompass mechanical design and project management but also an appreciation of hydraulics, pneumatics and an awareness of electrical control systems; which the companies outsources but still takes an overseeing role.
The role is design biased but will include involvement with customers through regular email and telephone correspondence and meetings both on site and in-house as necessary.
The company wishes to progress the use of its 3D design capability, which at the moment is Autocad Inventor and additional stress analysis package, but also uses Autocad 2D. The intention is for the successful applicant to take a leading role in the development of the 3D design within the company, ultimately overseeing the full transition to this system of work in the future.
The Candidate
Previous knowledge of aerospace and or similar test rig equipment would be advantageous but not essential so long as a good level of general mechanical engineering design experience has already been attained. It is expected that the applicant will have the capability to carry out general design calculations for power, torque and material stress.
IT skills required;
• 3D Autocad, and stress analysis if possible,
• 2D Autocad,
• Solidworks / Inventor
• Excel Spreadsheets,
• Microsoft Project,
• Microsoft Word
As important as the applicants knowledge and experience is their passion, enthusiasm and interest in engineering. The role would suit a motivated, flexible and forward thinking applicant who thrives at problem solving and has more than a general interest in the engineering world.
Educational Requirements
• A HND or degree in engineering is preferable.
Promotion Prospects
This is a fantastic opportunity to join a flexible and progressive UK company who have the support and kudos of global manufacturing locations. The company enjoys promotion from within and this role has the capability for progression.
